The history of certain plants’ names’ origin are quite interesting. For instance, the plant was named Strelitzia by the English botanist Josef Banks. Having received an unusual South-African flower the ravished botanist exclaimed: «Such a royal flower ought to bear a royal name!» He named the plant Strelitzia reginae, that is «Royal Strelitzia», in the name of his friend and English king George III’s wife – queen Sophia Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.
