Though selectionists discover new and more perfect breeds of roses every year, the history how the most well-known ones were created is kept with care, passing from one generation to another. Thus the red Gallic rose, which has become the arms of the House of Lancaster, was brought from France by the earl of Lancaster. On the opposite the white rose – rosa alba, was proclaimed as an emblem of dukes of York.
